Browser Hijacked

11/10/2014

Our Surface Pro Laptop's Google Chrome Web Page has been hijacked by an unwanted web page.It does not appear as a program and therefore it cannot be uninstalled. There are numerous sites on the internet to remove said web page, but they all seem to have conditions. None of those I looked at go directly to the problem. Downloading them causes me more problems than I started with. Additional malware wants to slide in with every download, or I am invited to join or purchase something that I do not want. I stopped by the Computer Club on Wed. and was advised to submit this and perhaps I could stop by on Monday 11/10 and someone might be able to help me restore the Google Chrome Web Page. Thank you Andy Betley

The easiest way to fix a browser hijacker is to reset the browser to its defaults. This should reset the home page(s), search engine(s), extensions, plug-ins, etc. To reset Chrome, click the settings box upper right (three horizontal lines), then select Settings. At the bottom of the page, click “Show Advanced Settings”, then at the bottom of that expanded page, click “Reset.”

After restarting Chrome, you’ll have to re-establish your preferred home page, new tab page, etc, but that was kinda the point!

p.s. How do you like the Surface? We have a Toshiba in the lab that should be very similar, albeit much heavier.
